Workplace Learning
The Workplace Learning Resource (WpLR) Center provides programs that are functional in context to the job by providing skill enhancement that employees can apply immediately to their job after training. Innovative delivery methods are used including computer-based training, online instruction, and short-term onsite training. Effective WpLR programs are designed to meet the rapidly emerging just-in-time needs of the organization and the worker by successfully translating learning into improved job performance while providing workers with greater earning ability.
The College of the Desert Workplace Learning Resource Center (WpLRC) first conducts an assessment to allow businesses to analyze the skill levels of their employees to determine what training or basic education will improve their team’s performance. Once that is accomplished, the Office of Contract Education can create a training program tailored to the company’s needs, from existing College of the Desert classes to special workplace literacy courses to customized sessions delivered at their place of business. The centers also specializes in Vocational English as a Second Language training, Command Spanish, and in Customer Service.
